The problem

A suspicion, and no safe way to test it

The first steps taken after a concern is raised often determine whether anything can be proven. Records get touched, people get asked the wrong question in the wrong order, and evidence that would have been admissible stops being so. The work has to be designed for the forum it may end up in.

Business impact

What it costs to leave alone.

Evidence lost
Informal enquiries made early can compromise the material a formal process would have relied on.
Recovery foreclosed
Assets move quickly once a subject knows an investigation exists.
Regulatory and reputational escalation
A mishandled internal enquiry becomes a second problem alongside the original one.

Our approach

How we work on it.

Plan for the forum
Work is scoped from the outset for where it may be used, so evidence and documentation meet that standard.
Preserve first
Records and access are secured before anyone is interviewed, not after.
Findings, not opinions
Reports set out what the evidence supports and what it does not, clearly separated.

Process

How an engagement runs.

Four stages. You know which one you are in and what closes it.

  1. Scoping and preservation

Agree the question, secure the relevant records and access, and establish the reporting line.

  2. Analysis

Reconstruct transactions and flows, quantify exposure, and identify what the records show.

  3. Interviews

Conducted in a considered order, documented, and only once the record supports them.

  4. Reporting and support

A findings report, and continued support through whatever process follows.

Next step

Talk to someone who does forensic.

A short conversation establishes whether there is a real question here, who should answer it, and what it will take.

Not ready for a meeting? Ask one specific question instead.

What follows

  • A person in the relevant practice reads it, not a routing queue.
  • One reply that already contains a view, not a request to book a call.
  • A written scope and fee basis, or a straight answer that there is no work to do.
